Mantra for a happy life

Mantra for a happy life

I came across a very interesting thought, that virtually summarizes, what i think is the mantra for a happy life.

Recently 37signals, announced a bunch of their workplace privileges, that include 4 day work weeks and funding of their employees passions e.g. flying. Lot of discussion ensued on the web, (and i would talk about this idea in another post), but one comment by a shofr.com employee, on this blog, caught my eye.

If ever i had to summarize for someone, what is the mantra of a happy life, i would also have used this line:

It doesn’t just end at being passionate about what you do. It’s about taking care of yourself (physically and mentally), striving for happiness in a relationship, and having a hobby or interests that stimulate your brain.

I would have just added one point to this, help the community, in any way you can.

Isn't it all so simple? Just taking care of the following, and it ensures one is happy. I certainly think so.

  • Being passionate about the work you do
  • Taking care of yourself, physically and mentally
  • Striving for happiness in relationships
  • Having hobby or interests, that stimulate your brain
  • Helping the community in any way possible

I am sure if one does all of the above, chances are, the person who would be content, happy and have that 'peace of mind'.

Very succinctly put.

Very succinctly put. Stimulates one to think whether "There" could be more to life than this.

Rohit.

Easier said, than done!!

I don’t mean to sound condescending, but don’t we all know what truly makes & keeps us happy.
Knowing the mantra to a ‘Happy Life’ is not difficult, but following it & making it a part of our daily regime is difficult.
And that’s why I said…The mantra to a happy life is ‘Easier said, than done”!!

The culmination of a process

There was probably a time went we all went through a phase wondering about what is the right way to live our lives. Things that made us happy in some aspects leave us wondering in others, but it takes some time to arrive at basic ground rules.

Also, girls seem to get this aspect figured out earlier than boys.

I know some people who are going through this stage of discovery, and hopefully this post can help them think deeper and come up with their own answers.

Probably the most important reason people dont have it figured out is that they dont think about it.

Of course... I agree with "Easier said than done"

getting happiness scientifically...

Probably coming up with the concise list and penning it down was the only simple thing...

>>Being passionate about the work you do
It can be difficult to find "the work" we love the most... and then the working conditions, and peers jump in to complicate things :)

>>Taking care of yourself, physically and mentally
yes, i totally agree with 'physically' and the path is clear... but mental fitness is something difficult to achieve (I am not even sure how exactly it is measured)... probably being happy with your state of mind (analogous to the physical state).. but then, you can convince yoursefl that your state of mind is fine, as one can convince themselves that they are physically fit.

>>Striving for happiness in relationships
This is the most difficult part of life, in my opinion! 'Striving' itself clearly connotes that it takes huge pain and struggle to maintain relationships. This really makes the "simple" an understatement.

>>Having hobby or interests, that stimulate your brain
I tell u..this is sort of easy to be done and actually works for me! Probably lot of people will be nodding... at least I got one right :-)

>>Helping the community in any way possible
Lot of people want to do something for the community.. only if they knew how ...Pretty difficult... :)

Path is clear and simple... walking the path is difficult.

It ain't that easy to recite it! :-)

Yes, i agree with some of the thoughts posted above, mentioning it is indeed difficult to recite this mantra, and walk this talk.

There are challenges, and we have to work our way through them. The choice is upon us, either to work through them, or accept it's way too difficult.

At least for me, knowing what you want, is often half the battle won :-) ...
