I found this nice video showing modifications made in a Gypsy, to prepare it for rallying. The embedding of this video is disabled, so you would have to go to this link to view it.
The add-ons have been described very well by experienced rallyist Ashish Gupta. Here is a quick summary:
- Roll Cage to prevent the cabin from collapsing in case of a tumble
- Circuit Breaker used to disconnect all electricals in case of an accident
- Fire Extinguisher
- FIA approved 4 point seat belts
- Crash Helmets
- RPM meter with shift light that blinks if the RPMs are going too high for that gear that could lead to engine cutoff
- GPS mounting
- Navigator's foot raise, with 2 buttons, one for wiper and the other one for horn
- Brake and accelerator pedals with a better grip
- Extra Petrol Tank
- 2 spare tyres
- Hydraulic Jack
- Snow Chains (weigh around 20 Kgs)
- Strengthened under body
- 2 shockers for each tyre
- Splash guards
- Strengthening for battery, radiator and engine mounting
So, one needs a big heart and a bit of cash as well! :-)
