Whitewater Rafting

Posted by Aditya on Mon, 2008-04-07 22:48 in

I made a quick weekend getaway with my office colleagues to the Great Indian Outdoors camp near Chakrata, and boy the river rafting in Yamuna was some experience.

I have done it previously in river Alaknanda, again with GIO people, and friends from my previous organization at that time. (And the memory remains .. :-)).

A bite from history

Going through Issac Asimov's Chronology of the world, I stumbled upon this interesting and sad piece of history..

Antipater of Sidon, a poet of the ancient greek times, compiled the list of Seven wonders of the world around 140BC. The list included the "Temple of Artemis" at Ephesus (present day turkey) which had its share of glory but probably more than a fair share of tragedy.

Best Sci-fi short story?

Legendary author Isaac Asimov rated his most favorite stories in this order: "The Last Question", "The Bicentennial Man", and "The Ugly Little Boy".

Going by a few hacker discussions, "The Last Question" did seem to be one of the real favorites, and even got tagged as the best ever. Luckily this story is available online here.

Talent

I have always admired multi-faceted people, who are good at more than one thing, and if possible one of the very best in their chosen field.

The education that I have had, and my chosen field of work, has kind of meant limited interaction with people outside the domains of engineering and business schools. Make no mistake, I know a number of truly outstanding individuals, who would be big names (if they are not already) in the fields of technology, biotechnology, finance, consulting and in general being great contributors to the society (Teachers, Social workers..).

The Universe is Perfetc

A year and a half back, i would have happily laughed away the notion in this article:

Universe is Pefetc

But does this really help?

"Divine set-ups are purposeful events, choreographed by our soul to create the opportunity for us to wake up." Divine set-ups? An interesting way to see life. Everything that is happening in life is by Divine set-up.
